Is abortion legal in Kansas?

The Kansas state constitution guarantees the right to abortion care—a decision that was reaffirmed by the Kansas Supreme Court in 2019.  In fact, in August of 2022 Kansas voters rejected the Kansas abortion referendum, keeping abortion legal and protected in the state. Although abortion is legal in Kansas, access is extremely limited. As of October 2025, there are only 7 abortion clinics in Kansas, and they are concentrated in just 4 cities.

Access is further strained as nearby states like Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas have near-total abortion bans with limited exceptions. This means that patients from those states may also depend on Kansas’ few clinics.
