Hey Jane is a great resource for women going through pregnancy the nurses are always available and give kind and comforting feedback. The experience was made a lot less scary and stressful. Everything you need comes in the mail and explains what's needed and even then they'll still answer any kind of question you may have. I was so anxious and the ability to message the nurses and them providing so much comfort, empathy and helpful remedies to symptoms.

Pros: Convenience, discreet, zero judgment, quicker than most places for care (abortion care in particular), they seemed like they actually cared (while my PCP and OBGYN made me feel awful and weird and uncomfortable). Cons: Didn't accept my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket 100%, providers don't do much on weekends so don't expect updates or progress on your case until Monday (this isn't so great with time sensitive cases), Slight misalignment on timelines due to not shipping or working on weekends (my abortion care was received too late for the dosage they claimed I would need, I was actually beyond the timeframe they sent and was at the next phase, though it did still work out fine). I would still recommend this service/provider to someone in need.

This is my second medication abortion using Hey Jane. Both of my abortions were within less than a year of each other. My first abortion was considerably painful and traumatizing at only four weeks, I did not end up passing the remainder of pregnancy tissue until about a week after I took the second dose, it was super unexpected and painful. However, my second abortion was much less horrific at five weeks-- the only thing I did differently was taking the first dose (misoprostol) EXACTLY 24 hours before beginning the second dose (mifepristone) vaginally. For my first abortion, I took misoprostol only 6 hours before taking mifepristone vaginally. I think waiting the full 24 hours is crucial, regardless if you are taking it vaginally. I barely bled after taking mifepristone for my first abortion, but the pain was unbearable-- I was horrified that it wasn't working. About 6 hours after taking mifepristone, I passed something that resembled an embryo, but it was far from over... I began unexpectedly passing heavy clots a week after I took mifepristone, which was very painful. The second time around, I was bleeding even before taking the second dose of mifepristone. After waiting the full 24 hours, the medication began working almost an hour after I had the second dose. The pain was much more bearable, I was even OK enough to play chess with my friend who was there supporting me. I was bleeding pretty moderately, and it wasn't until hour 7 or 8 that I was in the most intense pain-- even then, the pain was not as horrific as it was for my first abortion (even though I was further along the second time!!) I am not sure if there is science to back this up, but in my personal experience(s), it is best to wait the full 24 hours before beginning the second dose. My body was telling me that the waiting period allowed the first dose to fully block the pregnancy hormone, instead of rushing into the second dose while the misoprostol was still settling into the body.
